Course Title:
Somatic-Informed EMDR: Using Sensorimotor Principles to Track Nervous System Cues and Support AIP

Date:
Friday 11/6/26

Time:
1:00 PM – 4:15 PM

Course Description:
This training explores what happens in EMDR when the body is speaking but clinicians are not yet listening. Integrating principles from Sensorimotor Psychotherapy® and somatics, participants will learn to track subtle nervous system cues such as breath, tension, movement, and posture as meaningful clinical data within the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model. Rather than relying on cognition alone, clinicians will develop greater precision in recognizing when processing is emerging, stalling, or held in the body. The workshop emphasizes somatic-informed interweaves to support stuck or incomplete processing and is designed to build confidence in working with complex trauma cases.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify common physiological and nervous system cues during EMDR processing and match them to autonomic states
  • Describe core principles of sensorimotor-informed therapy including non-violence, organicity, unity, mind-body holism, mindfulness/presence, and relational alchemy
  • Describe the window of tolerance model and apply it to EMDR Phase 4 to support AIP
  • Apply an experimental, non-interpretive stance when working with body-based information in EMDR
  • Implement sensorimotor-informed interweaves in Phase 4 that support AIP without overriding processing
