Rationale from:
Why did I pick this topic?
This topic confused me for years. Over the course of becoming a facilitator and teaching interweaves, I now understand how and when to use them. I now use interweaves much more liberally for certain cases. I am hoping that my sharing my experience will help you to become fearless in your use. “The term interweave refers to the fact that this strategy calls for the clinician to offer statements that therapeutically weave together the appropriate neuro networks and associations.” (Shapiro, 1995)
Goals of Training:
Discover ways to conceptualize interweaves,
Identify different styles of using them,
Listen to case examples,
Understand when to use them
Learning objectives:
Describe at least three conceptual frameworks for the use of interweaves
Evaluate clinical indicators that determine when the use of interweaves is appropriate in the therapeutic process.
Identify different types of interweaves and how each can be applied to support client processing during EMDR therapy.

Traumatized parts live in “trauma time.” When triggered, they do not realize that they are reliving the past, keeping individuals in a flight/fight/freeze loop. By orienting parts to time and place, a person’s system can relax, reducing dramatic triggers and aiding stabilization in Phase 2 of EMDR therapy. Join us for a three-hour class to learn this effective technique. Learning Objectives: Explain how trauma impacts time perception. Describe the parts concepts underlying this intervention. Immediately use “orienting time and place” with clients. List questions that assist orienting to the present.

Research shows that it takes an average of 5-12 years in therapy for someone with a dissociative disorder to be diagnosed appropriately. EMDR therapy is at its best ineffective and at its worst dangerous for those with undiagnosed dissociative disorders. However, with the right education, EMDR therapists can successfully help these clients. This workshop is for clinicians who want to improve their understanding of how to assess and work with clients who have dissociative disorders. This twelve-hour class reviews in detail how to navigate phases 1 and 2 of EMDR therapy with clients with histories of complex trauma.
The workshop includes lecture, group and individual exercises, and video.
