Course Title:
Transforming Complex Trauma: EMDR and the RAP Technique
Date:
June 12, 2026
Time:
2:00 PM – 5:15 PM EST
Course Description:
EMDR therapy is highly effective at resolving difficult memories for trauma survivors. However, successful processing of traumatic material requires the presence of sufficient adaptive information while accounting for dissociation. Racial trauma involves experiences of oppression and discrimination tied to a person’s social identity, creating stressors that share similarities with complex PTSD symptoms.
This presentation provides an overview of Rhythm and Processing (RAP) strategies, offering a framework for integrating Anti-Racist Psychotherapy as an adjunct to EMDR to address complex trauma and identity-based traumatic events. The session includes a video demonstration and an experiential group self-care practice to allow participants to experience the RAP technique. Manuals and handouts will be provided for clinical application following the training.
Learning Objectives:
- List three core differences between PTSD and complex PTSD
- Identify the three aspects of the AIP theory that underlie EMDR’s effectiveness
- Define three elements of racial trauma from the Anti-Racist Psychotherapy perspective
- Identify the two paths for therapeutic change from the predictive processing framework
